Top 5 Twitter Tips

Social MediaPublished June 10, 2010 at 8:18 pm Comments Off

Tweets are appearing in non branded Google searches on an increasingly regular basis. This is a really easy way to gain some traffic, added to which a link is link, tiny urled or not links in tweets will help your site be crawled more regularly by the big G. I’ve tested two sites in similar markets posting the same amount of fresh content and trialled SBM V Tweets and the site which is auto producing Tweets every time it posts gets crawled a lot more V the site which bookmarks each new post several times due to this things get indexed quicker and because it autoposts I don’t actually have to do anything, which I like.

Top 5 Twitter SEO Tips

1.Your account name/username for the love of God make sure this is relevant to your site, this will be working in pretty much the same manner as a domain name as it will go in your pages permalink. This will of course be important for anything you want your tweets to rank for.

2.Keyword opt your Tweets Try and get keywords into your tweets, if your using an account for marketing purposes don’t tweet about what you had for lunch, keep things relevant. And try to keep them based around your market this will help all of your tweets rank. The more irrelevant Tweets you have the more your following Tweets will suffer. The more relevant Tweets you have the more associated your accounts will become will the terms. That and nobody cares what you had for lunch or if your going to the gym.

3.Integrate Twitter with your page A call to action on your page linking to your twitter is a fantastic thing, we all have RSS feeds even if they don’t really help a great deal because most end users have no idea what they are. So imagine an RSS feed which users actually well use…. brilliant!!

4.Chose your landing page well now I shouldn’t have to tell you this, but I see it a lot on twitter, people who link back to their home page from their tweet. This is of course a big mistake. If you’re tweeting about a new piece of industry news (which you should be otherwise you’re going to struggle with point number 2) then make sure your link goes to a nice big piece of content about it on your website. Tweeting to the homepage or an irrelevant page will land you straight in bounceville, no end user will be bothered to scan through your site for irrelevant pages.

5.Retweetability now this is very simple and is a minor variation on a concept we should all be very familiar with. It’s the same as link baiting, but it’s a lot easier to go viral on twitter. Once one person retweets things can get very busy very fast. We all know the sorts of things which are very good link bait. Top 5 lists for example
